Lent 4 – Truth Untied from Fear

John 18:28–40

Pilate moves nervously between rooms, trying to maintain control while confronting a truth he does not understand. Fear whispers that power must be protected and appearances maintained. Yet Jesus stands calmly, rooted in a truth that does not need to grasp or defend itself. This week invites us to notice the ways fear keeps us from facing what is real—within ourselves, our communities, and our world. When truth is grounded in God rather than control, it becomes steady rather than threatening. The church learns to tell the truth with humility and courage, trusting that grace is strong enough to hold what we discover.
